In a sea of wants...

In a sea of wants, how do you zero in on one want to pursue? In a world so beautiful and interesting, how do you pick one interest to go after?
I've always struggled with it. In my younger days, I was accused by one dimensional minds of being fickle, and I accepted those accusations with self doubt. It is only now, when age has brought along bravery and a healthy disregard for others' opinions, that I can comfortably call myself intellectually polygamous. It isn't possible for me to not want to travel and shoot and write and crunch numbers and read about space and Norse mythology and draw maps and sing and study architecture, business and history and start a company and shut down a company and become a potter and design clothes and work for an IT giant and make jewelry and work for the government too and draw out business strategies, all in one lifetime. It isn't ambition or overreaching optimism. It's just feeding a hungry soul, and knowing there won't be another life.
